Delhi Trip - stop 2

Qutab Minar, our second stop for the day, turned out to be what is probably my favorite place in Delhi today. Qutab Minar is a 72 meter tower (highest individual tower in the world), located in a complex of what was initially 27 ancient Hindu temples. The construction of the tower began in 1193 (over 800 years ago!) under the orders of India's first Muslim ruler.

It is not quite sure what the purpose of the tower was - some say it was used to offer prayer, but it is so tall that you can’t really hear a person standing on the top. Mughals used to build victory towers to proclaim and celebrate victories - so that is another likely possibility. The view from the top of the 378 steps to the top of the tower is supposed to be really good, but we could not see it for our selves as the tower now remains closed. Appatently, some people discovered it is a great place to end your life and got a little trend going on for a while....

The complex is surrounded by lush green area. The place is amazing!
